Why I choose to be a Democrat...

Because I believe that everyone should pay their fair share—and that those who have more should give more, ungrudgingly. We are not, unfortunately, of equal means in this world. I don’t mind helping people in need, and I’m willing to pay a bit more so that others don’t suffer.
Because I believe we should treat other nations the way we treat our neighbors—with respect and dignity. Even if we don’t always like them, there’s no sense in alienating them. I don’t want to be that one family on the block that all the neighbors loathe.
Because I believe in the rights of everyone—gay, straight, Black, Brown, rich, poor—it doesn’t matter. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are about advancing those rights for all.
Because I know we are a country of immigrants, and unless you are Native American, your ancestors came from another country to settle here.
Because I care about the environment, and I’ve seen how, if left unregulated, industry will cut every corner in pursuit of the almighty dollar—often at the expense of our natural world and all the creatures in it, including humans.
Because the GOP has chosen to follow a narcissistic sociopath down a road toward authoritarian oligarchy. It is no longer the party it once was—one that once had ideas and leaders I could like and admire.
